DAY 1 LOVED BEFORE YOU WERE PERFECT

Scripture Reading

John 13:34 NLT

“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.”

Scriptural Thought

Jesus gave this command to people who were far from perfect.

The disciples had weaknesses, fears, pride, misunderstandings, and rough edges. One of them would betray Jesus. Another would deny Him. Others would abandon Him when life became dangerous.

Jesus knew all of this, yet He still loved them.

His love was not based on their perfect behavior. It flowed from His perfect character.

That is good news for us because Jesus also knows everything about us. He knows our failures, hidden struggles, attitudes, insecurities, and mistakes. There is nothing about your life that surprises Him.

Yet He still invites you close.

Many people live believing they must become better before they can receive God’s love. They attempt to clean themselves up, fix every weakness, and prove that they are worthy.

But the gospel tells us something different.

We do not change so Jesus will love us. We change because Jesus already loves us.

His love does not excuse everything in our lives, but His love meets us where we are and refuses to leave us there.

You are not loved because you have everything together. You are loved because Jesus chose to love you.

Reflection

Have you been trying to earn a love Jesus has already freely given you?

What part of your life have you been afraid to bring honestly before Him?

3-Step Application

1. Receive His love.

Begin your day by saying, “Jesus, thank You for loving me completely.”

2. Be honest with Him.

Bring one weakness, failure, or struggle before Jesus without hiding or making excuses.

3. Reject the lie.

When shame says you are unworthy, remind yourself that Jesus loved you before you were perfect.

Closing Prayer

Jesus, thank You for loving me even though You know everything about me. Help me stop trying to earn what You have already given freely. Heal the places in me that are controlled by shame, fear, and insecurity. Let Your love become the foundation of how I see myself. In Your name, amen.
