DAY 1 — DON’T LET WHAT YOU SEE DECIDE WHAT YOU BELIEVE

Scripture Reading

2 Kings 6:15–16 NLT

“Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha.“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!”

Scriptural Thought

Elisha’s servant woke up and saw an army.

Everywhere he looked, there was trouble.

Soldiers. Horses. Chariots.

They were surrounded.

And his immediate response was:

“What are we going to do?”

Can we be real?

That sounds a lot like us.

You look at the bills.

You look at the doctor's report.

You look at your marriage.

You look at your children.

You look at your job.

You look at everything happening around you and immediately start asking:

“What am I going to do?”

The servant wasn't imagining the problem.

The army really was there.

Faith doesn't require you to pretend that problems aren't real.

Faith reminds you that your problem isn't the only reality in the situation.

Elisha saw the same army his servant saw.

The difference was that Elisha knew something his servant didn't yet recognize:

They weren't alone.

Sometimes fear comes because we're making conclusions based only on the information available to our natural eyes.

But what you see isn't all there is.

You may see opposition.

God sees provision.

You may see a dead end.

God sees another way.

You may see yourself surrounded.

God sees that you're surrounded by Him.

Before you panic over what's in front of you, remember Who is with you.

Reflection

What situation in my life have I been looking at primarily through the lens of fear?

Have I allowed what I see to become bigger in my mind than what I know about God?

3-Step Application

1. Name It.

Write down the situation that has been creating the most fear or worry in you.

2. Reframe It.

Beside the problem, write: “This is real, but this is not all there is.”

3. Remember Him.

Spend a few minutes thanking God for His presence before asking Him to change anything.

Closing Prayer

Father, I admit that sometimes I allow what I see to control what I believe. Help me remember that my circumstances are not greater than Your presence. When fear rises, remind me that I am not alone. Teach me to trust You even when I cannot see what You are doing. In Jesus’ name, amen.
