DAY 1 — STAY AWAKE

Scripture Reading

1 Peter 5:8 NLT

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”

Scriptural Thought

Peter doesn't tell us to be afraid of the enemy.

He tells us to be alert.

There's a difference.

Fear makes you panic. Alertness makes you pay attention.

Think about driving late at night. You can be on a familiar road, driving a familiar car, headed somewhere you've been a hundred times—and still be in danger if you start falling asleep.

The road didn't suddenly become more dangerous.

You became less alert.

That's one of the dangers we talked about in this week's teaching. Most people don't wake up one morning and decide, I'm going to walk away from God today.

It usually happens gradually.

You stop praying like you used to.

You stop spending time in the Word.

You start missing opportunities to gather with other believers.

Think about it, something that used to bother you doesn't bother you as much anymore.

Little by little, you start drifting.

Believers can slowly become tired, distracted, and spiritually dull rather than abandoning their faith all at once.

That's why Peter says:

WAKE UP. PAY ATTENTION. STAY ALERT.

Not because Jesus has lost His authority.

Not because the enemy is stronger than God.

But because you don't want to become careless in a battle you're supposed to be awake for.

Reflection

Ask yourself:

Where have I become spiritually sleepy?

Is there an area where you've been saying, “I'm fine,” but deep down you know you're drifting?

What has been getting more of your attention than God lately?

3-Step Application

1. IDENTIFY IT.

Name one thing that has been dulling your spiritual awareness—distraction, entertainment, busyness, temptation, isolation, social media, or something else.

2. LIMIT IT.

Don't just recognize the distraction. Put a boundary around it today.

3. REPLACE IT.

Use some of that recovered time to pray, read Scripture, worship, or simply sit quietly with God.

Closing Prayer

Father, help me stay awake spiritually. Show me where I've become distracted, comfortable, or careless. Give me wisdom to recognize what is pulling my attention away from You. I don't want to live afraid of the enemy, but I also don't want to live unaware of his schemes. Help me stay close to You, sensitive to Your voice, and grounded in Your Word. In Jesus' name, amen.
